In terms of "desert environment" for a collared, are there any natural options? By natural I mean something that they would have in nature, and not your run-of-the-mill packaged substrate. I've considered that "Desert Mix" stuff, which I believe is crushed walnuts (?). It would be nice to plant some safe plants in the cage as well, and a firmer substrate would be nice which rules out the desert mix. Has anyone experimented with different substrates (or combinations thereof), and had good results?
