hypo tang x albino

bigdee Jan 01, 2004 09:57 PM

will you get anything special from breeding hypo tang to an albino? Also I thought that hypo has less than 10 spots and super hypo had no spots. I am seeing alot what breeders are calling so called super hypos with spots. I also have 2.1 hypo tangs and im keeping a pair for hypo tang project and the other male I have for sale but if I cant sell him by jan 10 I may keep him, so can a hypo tang be incorperated into another type of project if so what? (I guess thats why I asked the ariginal question) thanks in advance

how much are you selling him for?...

oh, and if you crossed them at first you'd get hypo tangs het for albino, but then if you bred an albino to them you'd get hypo tang albinos.

Most Hypo Tangerines are line bred traits, so hopefully you'll get hypo tangs het albino. You may get some nice ones, but there's no guarantee.

The Hypo gene in true carrot tails is dominant or codominant, and they produce about 50% hypos and super hypos.

I can definately answer this one as it's my specialty.

The first year you will just get hets that may or may not have tangerine or reduced spotting. However if you breed those offspring together you will get 1 in 4 albinos that have some hypo genes. The genes will likely be noticeable/visible in some, and not noticeable in others (be aware that the hypo traits may not make themselves apparent until months after hatching). Though selective breeding you can work towards hypotangerine albinos. You can also breed a het back to albino parent, you'll get 1/2 albinos but you'll have less hypo genes in those, unless the albino already has hypo genes. If you want to work on such a project you'll put yourself years ahead in quality if you start with at least a tangerine albino, preferably one with hypo genes.
