Imported Ball Pythons????

mingdurga Jun 04, 2003 01:36 PM

Don't understand why Thousands still imported into USA for pet trade, etc. Survival rate is low in the pet stores, considering the expertise shown by employees. Would think that private breeding would have enough to go around, considering their prices for normal are much lower than pet stores and in better shape. Has anyone taken a census on the survival rate for imports, whether farm or wild?

The pet stores and novice keepers they sell to might kill nearly as many even if the pet stores carried captive bred. They just buy what is less expensive (i.e. $10 imports). Most new keepers are going to buy from the pet stores due to convenience and impulse buying.
