Should I be worried?

apeilia Jan 02, 2004 12:40 AM

I saw some previous posts on this, but I think I still have a few questions.

One of my blood pythons, about 1-1/2 yrs old, has a large mass of urates centered a little less than an inch from the vent. I've tried soaking in warm water (for 2 days!) and then also tried applying some pressure and it doesn't seem to want to move. It's been in the exact same position for quite a while, and I thought it would have passed by now. Has anyone ever had soaking not be successful or have had this become a problem? I am probably taking her in to the vet tomorrow, just to be on the safe side. It's been about a month beyond what has been normally observed for this snake to pass anything solid. Maybe it's always like this and I just never noticed before? and maybe I just worry too much!
Thanks!

I wouldnt be worried about this. Bloods always take a long time to deficate. Aside from soaking a little exercize might help pop it out. If you start to see negative side effects associated with the non passed urates i would take the snake to the vet, but other than that I wouldnt worry about it

Well, I've just never had one have that large of a mass of urates so close to the vent not be passed for that long. I did go in to the vet anyway and they broke it up so that it could be passed. Oh well. If I didn't need to go, no harm done. Just making sure... I should have done it myself though. Oh well.
Thanks!

My blood had the same problem. I put him in a cage with insanely high humidity and he's better for now.
