Would there be any problems with setting my egg box on a heating pad hooked up to a thermostat? Regular UTH
For an incubator I have a rubbermaid with a locking lid, vermiculite, two clutches of eggs (one due to hatch in two weeks or so), inside a 10 gallon with an UTH. I have a digital thermometer hooked in and I rotate the box once a day so that the "cooler" side is a different clutch each day. It's worked for me so far, all the eggs have veins. In another two weeks I'll know if it was a good setup for the eggs or not, but I think it's a good way to do it. I don't even have a thermostat, just the thermometer and I move the box closer or further away from the heating pad based on the temperature of the substrate. Since I'm home for summer vacation (The truly BLESSED part of being a high school teacher) I can monitor the temperatures pretty closely. I've had occasional peaks of the substrate (an inch down) being up to 86 degrees, and down to 77 degrees, but mostly it's a steady 82 degrees.
