New female Henkeli - is she gravid?

lovelyleopards Jan 02, 2004 01:59 AM

Hi everyone,

I received a pair of henkelis from Xtreme Reptiles shortly before Christmas. They are fresh WC animals in apparent good health and condition. They are feeding quite well and seem to be comfortable in their enclosure. I have no previous experience with Uroplatus, but the female looks to me as though she may be gravid. If anyone can tell from the pics, please give me your opinion. Just in case, could someone go over what has worked for you as far as incubation? I would assume mid to high 70s with good humidity... anything else? I have no dewormed the female for fear of her being gravid. Also - the substrate in their vivarium is mainly peat moss - will I have a hard time finding eggs? Or will she make a rather obvious mound? Thanks for any and all help. The pic below is of her full body. I will post a pic of her belly in a reply to this post. Thanks!

Hard to be 100% sure from a photo, but she does look gravid. The two light masses are developing eggs, one is normallt higher on one side than the other. It's a good idea to feed land snails or give extra oral Calcium supplements at this time.

I'm not quite sure from pic, to be honest. I have had my male for awhile, and I'm expecting a female on Tues, so we can share info as we go,

But here is a good site with care sheets from several people, breeding and incubation included.
Also you can click on Kelly Sharps name, breeder, she is very friendly, and can help with any of your questions, on your girl being gravid.

Hope this helps you !!!! Good Luck

That was a nice collection of caresheets - I have them bookmarked. At least it reaffirmed that I'm doing everything right as far as care. I'll just wait and see if she lays.... thanks for the help!!!
