Weird Humidity Reading

rsalib Jan 02, 2004 03:04 AM

When I went to purchase my misting system from ProProducts I was suggest to get a digital hygrometer (humidity gauge). I mounted it on the back wall of the cage with 2 sided tape and it seems my temp readings are fine, but it gives me a reading 20-30 degrees less than the regular analog dial type gauge.

I spray the cage, 1 minute at 7am, 12noon, 1pm, 2p, 3pm, and again one more time at 7pm.

I plan on spraying 1min. every hour at the top of the hour from 7am to 7pm when she is in shed.

The only problem is the cage gets more soaked than the stupid fogger i had before, thats not THAT big of a deal as long as her humidity gets right.

Anyone have this problem with a digital hygrometer?

Richard,
I assume that you meant the digital gauge was reading 20 to 30 'percent' less than the analog gauge. The easiest way to rough check and/or calibrate a humidity gauge is to seal it in a clear plastic bag on top of a heavy cloth saturated with very warm water. Do not get water directly on the gauge. Wrap it so you leave just enough room in the bag for the gauge and the cloth. Within a few minutes the gauge should stabilize at between 95 and 100 percent. If it reads lower than this the gauge is off and should be either calibrated if it has an adjustment screw or returned if it does not. I have used this method for years and it seems to work well.
