I have had my water dragon for 2 years now. When I first got him I had no idea that you were not supposed to house them in glass, he quickly developed nose rub, so I got him a Reptarium which he loved because he could climb on the sides. I recently built him a new cage due to the fact that Reptariums don't hold in moisture or heat. But his nose rub has not gotten any better. He has already been to three different vets. One told me that it would go away on it's own. The other one had no idea what my water dragon even was, and the third one gave me this anti-biotic that I had to inject into his food. That didn't work. So does anyone here know how reverse or help nose rub? or is it just untreatable?

First all of mine are temporarily being housed in glass tanks until this summer when we can build new cages...(we have 3 basilisks...nose rub is even more common in bassies than WD's)

As long as you put up some visual barriers in the glass it is fine...we've never had a problem...

As for your case...the nose rub should go away on it's own...but it won't happen overnight...sometimes it can take a few months and even then it can be permanent...it depends on how bad the case is.

You can give him warm baths during shedding to try and shed off the old skin...otherwise it'll just take time...as long as he isnt' rubbing it continuously...he should be fine...

Thanks for the advice, he's getting his weekly soak right now. I'm going to try Silvadine to see if that will regenerate some of his lost tissue, plus he is getting antibiotic ointment applied to his snout because it is starting to get the smell of infection. I just wish it would get better, it looks so painful.

I have a friend who recieved a water dragon from the animal shelter...vets and other people insisted that he put it down because it was in such bad shape from nose rubbing...you could and can still see the front of the snout bone...you can also see his front teeth even when he closes his jaw...

with much tlc and painkiller...the water dragon is now able to live a happy, healthy and normal life...

he looks pretty rough though due to the snout and he's also got a missing tail...

I hate to see people mistreat animals...it represents lack of responsibility and intelligence. Penalties for such actions should be much worse than they are.

Sorry...I was getting on a rant there...

Thought I'd give you a story to let you know you are not the only one in situations like this...I'm sure he'll get better and GOOD LUCK!
