gravid female and her eating habits

alieliza Jan 02, 2004 11:38 AM

My gravid female is absolutely crazy about food. She gets fed at least ten meal worms a day on top of crickets every other day. She is so crazy about food that she literally hovers over her food dish every other day and every time you open up her cage she gets all excited what seems to be in hopes for food. Is this normal? should i succomb to her desire and just pump her full all day? This is my first experience with a gravid female so i dont know if this is normal or what.
Thanks.

yeah. and when i say hovering i mean hovering. she is just sitting there with her head over her dish or even laying with her head propped up on her dish. It is comprable to a dog. I bet if she could pick up her dish and carry it over to me she would. It is bizarre. I have never seen anything like it.

I would feed her quit a bit more since she is gravid. It takes a lot of weight and calcium out of her body. I have one that she ate anything that would move that she thought was food. Then about a week before she laid she stopped it a lot and now I have 2 eggs cookin'. Its normal for them to get well "aggressive" towards food. Its kinda how women have cravings when they are pregnant. I would feed her more not to much but atleat enough to fill her appetite. Shes eating for 3 remember that.

I agree with Jag. I would feed her as much as she wants. Mine will not eat a few days before laying, so it is important that they eat well what they are eating. Also, make sure she has plenty of calcium.

You can never have just one gecko. Actually it is almost impossible to have two
