Hiberation Shed?

centrewood Jan 02, 2004 11:56 AM

I am hibernating a first year female breeder (second year hibernated) that is 4 years old. Her last meal was a month ago, her lights and heat were turned off two weeks ago so her hiberation cycle started at the beginning of December. I put her in cool/very dim storage yesterday (runs between 48 and 56 F). I noticed she appears to be starting a shed (started within the past 4 days) as I put her in the hibernation box - scale color was a bit dull. Has anyone had any experience with hibernation sheds? Is it a concern since she will be inactive for approx. 8 weeks?

Thanks for any input......

I've had corns shed during hibernation with no problems. On the other hand, my temperature was a little higher than yours. But I still think that the odds are high that your snake will shed fine.
