Eastern Hognose Price

JungleGems Jan 02, 2004 12:28 PM

Is $145.00 shipping a reasonable price for an adult female Melanistic Eastern Hognose or do you think I can do better? I will be purchasing a baby Eastern from a member on this forum in a few weeks, but because I do plan on breeding these later on I was thinking about getting the adult female as well from another source if the price sounds fair. If any of you Eastern owners wouldn't mind giving me your input, I would appreciate it. Thanks!- Jennifer

I meant $145.00 *plus* shipping (around 35.00 extra).- Jen

First think you need to find out is if it is eating unscented mice. If so that is a huge bonus especially since easterns can be difficult to switch over. Also how old is it? In my opinion age is extremely important especially if you are not going to be abloe to breed her for another 2 or 3 three years because you are trying to raise up a male. I have seen melanistic easterns at the shows sell for about 75-100. I think 175.00 35.00 shipping is kinda high.

Chances are it was wild caught. The only way I would pay that much is if it were eating unscented mice. However, I know firsthand that Eastern hognoses can be difficult to come by when you need them, so unless you can find another source for captive bred Easterns that are eating mice, I would say keep looking.
