question about sexing and sexual maturity

deejacdesigns Jan 02, 2004 02:26 PM

i own a 6 month old and i was looking to get another...im not sure if i want to breed but i figure that since im going to raise 2 snakes to adulthood(no easy task)..i might as well make sure im raising a pair so i have the option to breed ,should i decide to in the future...my question is this...there is a show im thinking about going to in about 3 months..that would make my snake about 9 months old at the time...is there a way to sex him or her accuratly at that age??...and if so,then what age snake shoud i buy at the time to ensure an acurate sexing of my new snake..im asking because i hear that sexing hatchlings is not easy or safe...lets say my 9 month old proves to be a male...should i buy an adult female??will i have to wait long for the 9 month old male to breed with my new adult female?or viceversa...how long does it take for a female 9 month old to become sexually mature??...iv read some on other snakes and it says that in captivity some snakes mature twice as fast because of an abundant food source..is this also true of GTP??..any advice will be great..thanks in advance

Before you sex your green tree he or she should be atleast 1 year oldso you wont mess up there tails because if you sex them to early theres A CHANCE THAT YOU WILL MESS THEM UP AND THEY WONT BREED AT ALL. sorry about the caps. youcould take |A chance and damage there tails. so if I were you I would wait and then get it probed. hope this helps
