I am currently building 8'x4' cages for my yellowhead retic from Bali and my larger Burms.I have used newspaper as a substrate but now I need to go to something more for display.I was thinking of cypress mulch or aspen.Anybody have any advise?

I always did like "astro-turf" and still use it. But wash it real good first just to be safe. It's a reasonably "natural" looking/feeling substrate, easy to clean too. Even when wet after washing, the humidity it creates is probably good. I haven't heard of any downsides to it, perhaps other know of some? Sure has worked good for me.
