Yawning?

Recoil Jun 04, 2003 02:29 PM

Hello, recently bought a 5 week old ball python. He's been great so far, I fed him once on a 'fuzzy' mouse and he took it just fine. I know it's normal for snakes to re-align their jaw muscles after feeding but I've seen my snake do it several times over the last week or so, which I don't think was associated with the feeding.

Is this normal? (Their doesn't seem to be any fungus but perhaps a slight saliva 'film'in the mouth of the snake.)

Thanks a lot, Mark

My BP yawns a lot too. (Both of them) Nothing to worry about. As long as the mouth looks clean the snake is just lazy

I would vote on the side of caution and have him vet checked. I have three BPs and have had them for a couple of years and don't see any yawning that often. A good vet will hear crackling. That way you get a good idea of whether you want to raise temps and humidity. What are your temps and humidity? Also, do you see the snake breathing hard and or visibly 'swallowing' breath....like do you see it breathing with the muscles of its throat?
