PLEASE READ , HELP NEEDED...

I recently acquired 3 albino leopard geckos, for a very good price. Two of the 3 have runny feces and I went to the feed store and bought some safe guard. I have heard that it is hard to overdose them but have nothing to measure with. It is 100mg/g. What would be a good way to measure it for all three of the Leo's? They are all Juvi's.

BTW-
They're in quarantine

Any help will be appreciated!!

Thanks,
Chad

Chad, what is Safe-Guard supposed to be used for? If it is a de-wormer, you are probably using the wrong treatment because runny feces is not typically a symptom of those types of parasites. You may need to take your geckos to a Vet and have a fecal test performed in order to identify what type of problem you are dealing with, and use the appropriate medication.

How are your geckos eating? Are they active, or lethargic? How do you currently have them housed? If you are quarantining them, keep your geckos separately and use paper towel or newspaper substrates, and make sure the warm side of their enclosures are around 88-90 degrees at the gecko's belly surface. Sometimes something as simple as improper temps can cause gastro-intestinal imbalances.

Where did you get the geckos? Unfortunately, many times when people get "good deals" on "cheap" geckos, there may be a reason they are so cheap... especially if you got them from a pet store or an inexperienced breeder.

Hey Marcia,

I agree completely. Unless you have identified the parasites you're dealing with, you probably want to get a vet to determine what it is and what to treat it with. If you're feeding crickets and have been for a while, you stand a good chance of having pinworms, but as Marcia points out, that may not lead to runny stools.

SafeGuard is Panacur, but you don't need a prescription to use it. It's sold as a horse dewormer.

Take care,
