All Maryland Reptile Show

cichlid man Jan 02, 2004 04:33 PM

I am going to the All Maryland Reptile Show tomorrow and I have a few questions before I go...

1) How many leos can I have in a 50 gallon tank. I have two in there right now but I am planning on getting atleast two or three more (females) tomorrow if that's not over doing it.

2) Does anyone know any breeders that are going to sell stuff at the show that they would recommend buying from?

3) Is anyone else in this forum going?

Sorry I ask so many qustions.

I think the consensus is 50g = five or six leos. One Leopard Gecko to about 10g of floor space.

Then you should go look at Harford Reptile breeding center's site, because they are going to be the only Leopard Gecko dealers there.
Al Zulich is co-promoter of the show, his wife Billie sells leopard geckos. Anyone else that wants to become a vendor, that specializes in Leopard Geckos, is told that "they have too many Leopard Gecko vendors at this time."

On a good note, she has some nice looking geckos, just don't expect to see 20 tables of Leopard Geckos to choose from.......

I forgot that was going on tomorrow. I'll be there; gotta get some crickets. Thanks for reminding me.

I'm sure you could put two or three more in there, but you've got to quarantine them first. You'll need a separate enclosure for each new one that they'll be able to live in for 90 days, to be safe. Especially getting them from a show. You'll see a lot of vendors at shows with 20 different types of reptiles on their tables. Most of them don't breed those animals, but simply buy and sell. So, they don't have a good history of the animals, and some may not have been in the best of conditions. 90 days is the recommended amount of time for quarantine. Most people recommend they be in a different room than your current animals. How long have you had these two girls?

Harford Reptile Breeding Center will be there, probably right in front of you as you walk in the door. Billy is really cool and they have pretty nice leopard geckos; most likely the best ones there. I've purchased a crested gecko from Allen Both, of Reptile Kingdom, who is usually at this show. I don't think he breeds the leos he sells, but may have some nice ones.

Yep.

It is very important for you to quarantine them before introducing them to your existing leos. If you purchase a new gekco(s), they may be carrying dangerous parasites or infections. The quarantine period is to make sure that your gecko is eating and pooping the way they should. If you don’t see any signs of sickness within 3 months (90 days) then there is a much better chance that your leo is clean and healthy.

Most people go by the 10-gallon rule for adult leos. This means that a 40-gallon tank could hold 4 adults, and a 20-gallon would hold 2. Floor space is more important that height, so stay away from ‘tall’ tanks for leos.

Hope we didn't scare you too much, we're just looking out for the best interest of your geckos. Enjoy the show!
