Lost Corn Snake

jupomp851 Jan 02, 2004 05:40 PM

Hi, My Corn Snake is missing in my room and I can't find him. He has been missing for about a week and I was hoping someone whould have some good ideas to find him or get him to come out. Please let me know what you think?

Hmmmm... Quite a tough one. I know somebody who is putting tape down to find her snake, that is quite a good idea, but I would also consider putting some food around the house. I cannot really think of anything else.

Good luck finding your snake

I'm using tape to find my ball, but I don't want to use it if it's going to kill him...

I'm no expert, and I'm sure someone else might give a more detailed or experienced answer, but just looking at it from a logical point of view.....

If the tape is strong(sticky) enough to "catch" the snake...then how are you going to get the tape OFF the animal without hurting it? Have you ever pulled tape off your hairy chest (or some other hairy and sensitive part of your body)? It's one thing for us to lose a few hairs...quite another for the snake to lose a patch of scales.

I don't know if it would kill the snake, but it does seem there is a greater chance for injury than I would be willing to risk if it were my animal.

Ripping tape off could cause some serious damage, but you're supposed to use vegtable oil to unstick it, and if by some chance that doesn't work he'll just shed the tape off.

"...and if by some chance that doesn't work he'll just shed the tape off.

So until he sheds, he has to crawl around for weeks or more with a big swatch of tape stuck to his belly? That still sounds too risky to me. It could make crawling and moving difficult, as well as snagging on stuff and tugging at his scales. But that's just my opinion based on logical thought. I have no experience in the matter.

Leave out a dish of water....dehydration will get him long before starvation. You can try putting down dustings of flour around the dish and see if you see 'snake tracks' in it that may give you an idea of whereabouts.
If you are in a cool place put down heat and a hide......
I personally would never put down sticky traps or tape....rather have them loose than injured or killed in those.
Lastly, don't give up. Snakes can live amazingly long right under your nose and suddenly reappear. Be careful where you step and sit. Look up in furniture and loose laundry.

Failure is not an option. It comes bundled with the software.

I'm still using tape unless someone can convince me that it's less dangerous to have my ball lose around the house than it is the have a ball python with a peice of tape on him.
