I've seen collared and leopard lizards drink both droplets on the glass/leaves/rocks and from a dish. Just because you don't observe it drinking doesn't mean it's NOT drinking--offer standing water in a dish, and also spray the cage.

This has come up here before, and I don't currently own any collards and didn't have that problem before, so I can't give a definitive answer; but I would suggest covering the glass walls of the enclosure with opaque material (e.g. construction paper) so that the lizard doesn't try to "run through the wall."

Just leave a shallow saucer of water there anyway, he could be drinking.
If you are sure hes not, then you can also use a paper cup with a pinhole in bottom, sit it on top of your screen lid, over a rock, it will slowly drip down onto the rock, and sometimes collareds like to lick the drips off rock.

Also you can let an ice cube melt, the same way put on screen lid and let it drip down onto a rock.

As far as the jumping at the sides of glass, we all have gone through that, or still do with some. They seem to settle down evenually and won't do it as much. But it is kind of normal.

Is you collared new? If so, give him time to adjust.

So sorry I never saw your post way down the page, If they get to far down, we miss them sometimes, just do what ya did start back up at the top.
And you can always email, I'm always around here or there,

...that spray the water on the sides of the glass thing. Several of mine will drink from a small depression or bowl in their enclosures, usually early in the morning.

If you are feeling paranoid, see if you have a CLEAN (and I mean NEW-CLEAN-NO-RESIDUE!) eyedropper, and offer them a drop from it by letting a tiny drop touch the end of the mouth, taking care NOT to allow it to get on the nasal openings. If they are thirsty, some of them may begin to sip the drops down as you offer them slowly. If they say YUCK! in a loud voice, and begin to wipe the side of their face off on the nearest rock in horror, you can assume they are not particularly thirsty right then LOL. One of my wilder lizards (that absolutely hates me and wishes I was dead) will occasionally accept water from a dropper this way.

thank you i will try that he is new i haVe A Blue Collared Lizard is it true that they are a rare fourm of Collareds i will send you a pic 2mmarro?

eve Jan 02, 2004 10:45 PM

being blue it could be a C. Dickersonae or C. Collaris(also called aquaflame for the blue color and usually yellowish heads and yellowish orangey throat. But some can just be blue.

Yeah we will have to see a pic tomorrow to help you know what ya have.

If hes new, than thats why hes jumping at the sides. He should settle soon. Sometimes it takes awhile to get adjusted to their new home,

as I too have found this to be a very effective way of providing water to Crotaphytus. In fact, I myself use this method pretty much exclusively with my entire captive collared population. Each year my Crotaphytus hatchlings are introduced to "the eyedropper" virtually from day one, so the lizards "learn" from a very early age to associate its appearance in their cages with the opportunity for liquid sustenance. By the way, using an eyedropper is also an easy means of offering water to collared lizards during the brumation period...

ive had my collared for about 5 months now and he still runs at the glass and runs back and forth for hours and digging out all the sand in the corners,(often filling up his water dish with sand) and he seems to enjoy it so i just let him do it. Sometimes i wonder if he hit his head a little too hard...
