can i put a collard in with a beardie

mastino177 Jan 02, 2004 10:02 PM

I've got a beardie (around 4-5 months/8-10 inches) and I was considering puting a collard in with him to keep him company and/or a mali. I've got a 40 breeder and with a good set-up. Is this possible?

I don't think you are supposed to put Collareds with other lizards. I also think Beardies can hurt other lizards.

You will eventually be putting a collared IN the beardie...
The strength/size difference is too great between the species.
Also, the Uros like hotter conditions than the collareds...
See what the gender of your beardie is and get him/her another beardie of the opposite sex.

A male and female should be housed seperately except during breeding, if left together the male will stress the female to no end, continuing to try and mate.

A female and female can be housed together, sometimes, some get along some don't they will fight, and can harm one another.

A male housed with another male will probably end up killing each other.

So there is no way you can put a small collared with a beardie,
they would either get eaten, or terribly harmed. Also beardies carry coccidia, and can transmit this to other reptiles. if housed with them.

And don't even think of a uromastyx with a collared, DC was right, way different temps are required for uro's and they could also kill a collared.

Hope we have answered your question, LOL

Yeah, that's a point to consider with ONE male to one female. I was thinking of the colonies my daughter-in-law raises, and they keep SEVERAL females in with the one male per colony. They also keep several pairs, so who knows. All I've ever kept are the Pogona henrylawsoni.

And I keep my Uros on about an inch of birdseed, the collareds would think they were in quicksand LOL.

are kept seperately because of type and size. I think I mentioned to you Don, I have a very large maybe 19- 20 inch female egyptian uromastyx and a maybe 13 inch male saharan. They lived peacefully together for 3 years.

Then last breeding season my female went bazerk, nipping him started out like nice forplay and ended up with her picking him up in her mouth and tossing him from side to side.
I flew in the room and grabbed him, and that was the end of their relationship, LOL
So I can't even imagine putting a collared in with her.

As far as your post about Beardies together, some make out okay others do not. I have a very docile Big 5 yr. old male never attacks any of the reptiles.
