any suggestions on how to make people not to be afraid of snakes
Start with handling harmless babies. Corns are very harmless. Babies can be a bit wiggly. I used to think I was always afraid of snakes but I got to reading more about them and some are very harmless. Now...I think some are creepy and dangerous but since I got into corns I think they are so neat! I now have 2 corns, a milk and a jungle carpet python. Do you have any friends with snakes? See if they'll let you handle them...if they are not dangerous. These are just some of my thoughts..:0)
thanx im not afraid of snakes i m trying to face thier fear of snakes. the only thing ive ever had was the fear of heights
i use to be nervous around wild snakes when i was 7 but then i started field herping wuth my buddy and his dad. All they had to do was put a big black rat snake in front of me and say get it. I still get really nervous when were out field herping and come apon a copperhead or a rattler.
My mom and sister really dontlike snakes. My sister dosent like them cause her friends dont, i think if she would just hold my lil amel she would be cured. My mom is a product of fear of snakes being handed down from generation to generation. But im realy working with her. It's funny though cause she will stand them near her and watches them through the glass but wont touch them. My lil preppy sister will run the other way if i tell he im geting them out, but.... is i just walk up shes fine.
i would just say if you know someone with them just hold one once you do you will be cured.

what ever kind a corn catches my eye at the show
Are you talking about YOU, or are you trying to get a parent, spouse, etc less nervous so you can own one? I bet it's the latter. The other posts have some good ideas, and I would add any other kind of education (books, going to a reptile show if you can, frequenting this forum!).
Finally, my wife was alway against the snake idea until a friend of ours started talking about all of his (again, education). Even then (and even now) she is much more comfortable with snakes that don't look like wild or (in her mind) "real" snakes. She will handle my albino black ratsnake, but not the normal-colored one, even though neither one has ever bitten or been otherwise aggressive. She likes my beautiful corn snakes, too. Good luck. Then one day I decided that I couldnt be a baby all my life and at 30 got a fish that was called a rope snake, I didnt have to touch it but got more use to it as time went on. Once I was through that I went to the pet store and found the smallest one they had there. I bought her and now I love snakes and would like to get more.
I think its up to each person to overcome the fear, you cant make them, you can tell them 1000 times that there is nothing to fear but they wont believe you. Im slowly getting over my fear of heights too, its hard but its something I have to do for myself.
Just my two cents worth.
When I turned 40, I decided it was time to get over my fear of snakes once & for all. I have a background of working in a zoo, so I knew that "immersion" would work. I went out & bought a male snow corn & forced myself to get used to him because, after all, somebody had to feed him! After a year of feeding, handling & learning to trust that he wasn't gonna bite me, I bought him a girlfriend - then a 2nd girlfriend & plan to breed them - I think "immersion" training works best - I really like my corns snakes now - but a still won't go near anything the size of a boa. Anything that can get my whole fist in it's mouth is too big! LOL
