reasons snakes regurgitate their food?

shortydsm Jan 03, 2004 01:45 AM

My snake "threw up" the pinky he ate today. I was wondering what could have caused him to do this or if he is sick? I feed him outside his tank & today after he ate, he went "exploring" so maybe he was too active afterwards?

If the snake is not otherwise ill, some reasons include:

1. Temps which are not warm enough for digestion.

2. Too large a prey item.

3. Stress of some type, such as too much handling in the day or two following a meal. Too much being anything more than gently returning the snake to its cage if fed on the outside.

Don't try to feed for a week or 10 days. Then start with a smaller prey and/or cut the head off.

Good luck. Don't "jump the gun" and try to feed during the next several days. You could get a deadly regurge cycle going if your snake's digestive system has not fully recovered. Duffy
