I'm having a problem with my water dragon.

marvass Jan 03, 2004 01:53 AM

My water dragon seems healthy now. I just took him to the vet and was told that he's healthy. but, he won't eat anything else but crickets and mealworms and sometimes wax worms. I would like to feed him a pinky every week or two, but the problem is, he won't accept it. he just ignores it and closes his eyes. basically he shows no interest in eating pinkies. I mean, he's definitely big enough to devour one, but he just won't. any help or suggestion would be great. thanks.

You have to get some reptile tongs or tongs with rubber ends on them so it won't hurt the WD's mouth...grab the pinkie with a tongs and jiggle it infont of him...he should take to it right away...his is how I feed all my basilisks...I've never even tried just leaving the pinkie in the cage...

Well you said he's closing his eyes, that means hes probably getting scared of something. Don't stand over him and wait for himt o eat, and if it is a live pinkie, he'll eat it eventually. If its frozen and thawed, then jiggle it.

I've tried all that and still he refuses to eat. I'll keep trying. Do you think it's a good idea to not feed him insects for like 2 days, maybe he'll get hungry enough to eat anything infront of him?
