Herby had eggs...

windsor Jan 03, 2004 09:18 AM

Herby just laid a clutch of infertile (I dissected one) eggs. My question is this-how long should I wait before I try to remove them and start offering her food?

I don't want to upset her by taking the eggs out too quickly, but I don't want her to go without eating too much longer. She is "sitting" on most of them right now and looking at me when I approach. I offered her one cricket by hand, but she just closed her eyes.

I need all your wisdom now so I don't lose my baby! Marcia and Joe remember last Christmas what we went through to save her...

Thanks,
Windy

Windy,
I remove the eggs as soon as she has completed covering them. If she lays on the nest site overnight I will move her to a brance the next morning.

Offer food, just as you did, right away but don't force it. She will need to rest just as much as she will need to eat. She should eat at least by the second day after laying the eggs. I find that right after laying they are more interested in something that really moves like nightcrawler, superworm, roach, or pinky. I really like to give pinkies right after laying I think they stimulate the feeding and get them back to weight pretty well.

I have to say that if she laid eggs again she is really doing well. Good job!
