This ain't just a Ghost is it?

fourfeathers Jan 03, 2004 01:05 PM

This was sold to me as a Ghost Corn back in September. When I got "Phantom" there was no yellow pigment at all. Since his last shed his face and neck are showing a lot more signs of yellow.

I think Phantom may have another gene or may be another kind of morph.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Marcus

Here's another shot......

As far as I know, some ghosts still show traces of yellow. Some more than others. It depends what some breeders find desirable as to whether or not they breed corns selecting for reduced yellow. However, I am not sure it works in reverse...meaning there is no genetic way to select a corn for high yellow. Yellow is my favorite color with corns since it is so unpredictable and does not show up for a few months to a year.
At the very least, I'd say you have a very nice, very yellow ghost on your hands. My ghost has yellow one-third the way down its body but not as much as that. Nice find!

I replied before you posted the second pic, which makes the snake look different. Did you alter the first photo at all?
Just Curious. Still a nice snake, just not the same high-lighted yellow from a distance.

Actually, no. I haven't altered or touched up any of the photos. The yellow just shows up better at the right angle in the right light.

Here's some more pictures. At this point, I guess I'm just showing him off since the general opinion seems to be that Phantom is just a Ghost Corn with some yellow highlights.

He's a beauty.

Yep, that looks just like mine.

Good lookin' Ghost ya got there.

The above post changed.
It originaly had my respone about the snake definitely being a ghost and how similar to my ghost it was. All of that is gone.
You can't tell me my post was edited for confirming a morph.
No wonder everyone is leaving here.

My female ghost is a little over a year & looks just like this one - with one glaring difference - absolutely no yellow or even yellowish tinting anywhere. Does this mean I have a Ghost that's more special than average?

DonSoderberg Jan 03, 2004 10:18 PM

Here is an extreme example of yellow on a ghost motley (aka pastel motley).
