STEVE IRWIN?

What does everyone think about Steve Irwin's little stunt with his baby?

STUPID!! I don't care if he says he had a grip on his baby. That was very dangerous of him to do that. He takes to many risks and one of these days it will come back to him.

I wonder how the wife felt

It was pretty dumb though!!

I read on my AOL news that it is being compared to the Micheal Jackson dangling baby ordeal. I also read that his wife had no problems with it & she said something along the lines of "it was a great sensory experience for [the baby]. He dug it!" Weird...

Well, I'm not sure what she said about the main stunt, but apparently she called their daughter Bindi "The other white meat"

He was holding his week old son Bob while hand feeding a large crocodile a dead chicken.

I don't see any problem. It's his kid and his crocodile. From the picture, I don't see how anything bad could have happened. Crocodiles, like other reptiles, are extremely predictable. Once you get an idea of their body language and what their body is capable of, it's a piece of cake to know what they atre going to do next.
Example: Over the holidays my sister came to visit me and wanted to see some animals. I went and got a large brookis king to show her. She asks "Does it bite?"
I said "Yeah, sometimes."
She said, "Then why are you letting it's head get so close to your face."
I said, "Because it's not going to bite right now. and it wouldn't hurt all that bad (or at all) if it did."
Like Steve said, that situation appeared completely under control and something major would have had to happen external of the situation to make it dangerous. Come on, we all know reptiles, they're easy. If you know a cottonmouth can only strike half of it's body length, and it's only two feet long, and no part of your body is within a foot of the snakes fangs, you're not getting bit. People act like this croc was going to sprout wing and snatch the baby away with its "talons". Maybe if he was dealing with a big cat or bear or some other large INTELLIGENT animal it would have been dangerous, but this croc just wanted some chicken.

I don't think what he did was dangerous. Howewver I do think that the generally ignorant public will see it as dangerous, and it will be just another thing to point to and say "look what reptile people do!". Of course, since Irwin is generally against the keeping of reptiles in private collections, maybe he isn't concerned with that side effect. dave

I think the media blew it way out proportion.

Steve knows what he's doing. I saw the footage and that croc was turned away from him and the child and was currently swallowing the chicken. Steve was also keeping an eye on it. Even if the beast swung around, Steve and his son would still be far enough away to prevent injury, and far enough away to get away if the croc got unruly.

And to tell you the truth, I'm sure he would have put himself between the croc and the kid if something DID go wrong.

But in truth, it WAS a bad stunt. It was sure to cause people to go up in arms no matter that the child was in safe hands.
