My Uro's growth rate?

UroFanatic24 Jan 03, 2004 02:58 PM

I've had my mali's for about 1 year now. Igot them when they were babies and when i bought them they were about 7- 7.5 inches in lenght. They haven't grown much since I got them. I feed them everyday and they have the proper tanks set up and lighting and food. They went trough winter amoust according to the deerfernfarms caresheet but i didnt quit feeding them since they are babies. I was wondering if anyone knows when they have a growth spurt or if i am doing something worng or just have to wait ? Could someone please reply.

They are in a much bigger tank than the one you see in the picture!

it was like that for me, after i put about 1 foot of dirt in their cage and made the cage bigger they started growing faster. I would try digable dirt and a bigger cage for growth. I baraely got any growth on seeds, paper, or dry non-digable sand.

They are in a 300 gallon tank and the substrate is paraket food (bird food without sunflower seed.

I think the substrate is very important. At firts i housed my hatchlings on paper. Since they were growing very slowly i put them on bird seeds without sunflower seeds, just like what you have your uro on. I still didn't see that much growth. Then i put them on dirt in which they can dig their own burrows which is natural, and makes them feel safer. They started gained weight really fast. On paper and seeds they were gaining 1-2 grams every 3 weeks. On dirt they were gaining 3-4 grams per week. So that would be 1-2 grams every three weeks on paper or sand, and 9-12 grams every three weeks on digable dirt. Ask other people like georgio how much using dirt improved the growth rate of his uro. Just try it out and see how it works.
