Need advice - (sort of long)

Jo_OscarsMom Jan 03, 2004 04:15 PM

I currently have Oscar (full grown female) in a 55-gallon, long tank. It's approx 48" x 18" x 14". Approximately 14" of Oscar's tank is so she can look out the bedroom window, which she loves to do. (I work long hours and can't bear for her to be alone & bored for 12 hours at a time w/ no company, no stimulation.) She also has pictures of other beardies taped to 2 sides of her tank which she enjoys staring at.

Pip is in a 40-gallon, long tank.

I'm trying to come up with simeple setup that is somewhat stackable. Can someone provide ideas? I'm not handy at all in construction-related matters so it would need to be very simple.

BTW, does anyone else work long hours and leave your beardies for 12 hours at a time? The first thing I do when I get home is let them out to play for awhile. I feel guilty but I love too much to give them away. Any advice on keeping them entertained for long periods? Thanks so much!! Jo

You could probably go to a pet store and find something to stack them on. That's what I did for my two 40 gallon tanks. As far as entertainment, I know I read on here somewhere about someone using a TV.

Well, you could build a simple shelf system. I did that. It's in total 5 feet high, 4 long, 2 deep. It's got 2 4x2x2 cages, and a shelf seperating them that is 1 foot high. I only had an electric drill to work with and I was able to do that. I mean, it's no where near as nice as what other people have, but it works. You could also find a shelf somewhere and fit it to what you want. That would probably look nicer.

Everytime I see your comment about the Beta Fish at the bottom of your post I have to giggle. I don't know why it strikes me so funny, but it does.
I have 3 Betas with no names..only I didn't forget what they were, they never had any.

LOL.... Actually he really does have a name. He was given to me by a friend (Yusuke's owner). I was supposed to give him to another friend. I decided not to give him to her. Those things are great though, we've had whatever his name is for a year. We had another before that for about 3 years.

I'm gone M-F anywhere from 9-15 hours every day. It's tough not being around my beardie as much, b/c some nights when I get home he's already asleep. I just make sure that when I am home with him, I let him run around and explore. Don't know your living situation (if you have someone you trust) but my boyfriend is really good about letting him run and keeping a good eye on him while I'm gone.
