How can you tell.....

OneTwoManyHerps Jan 03, 2004 04:19 PM

I am wanting to breed my pair of bp's and am wondering how to tell when they are ready. I know that the female will ovulate, but mine hasn't done that yet and shes about 1 1/2-2yrs old now. Also what weight should they be and what setup changes will i need to make?

Curious as to how you "know" that your female will ovulate. Unless you are palpating for juicy follicles, how can you tell for sure she will go. Not all females ovulate every year. Especially ones that are 18 months old.

Uh, Jeff, I think he means that in the cosmic sense. Like, you know, “females ovulate.” As opposed to, say, males.

Then I presume the question he's asking to be:

"When are my Ball Pythons ready to breed (minimum average) and how do I do it?"

1) Males can be 500-800g and breed at less than a year. Females should be 2-3 years old and a minimum of 1500g (just a guidline).

2) How do you do it? You cycle them. The info is basically everywhere out there. Lower night time temps, normal day time temps.

The amazing thing is that its already Jan. 3rd and this is only the first time this has been asked this year!! LOL!! Usually this question is posted here like 3x a week! Maybe a simle FAQ at the top would result in these questions not being asked 100 times a month here?

Best of luck!
