Geckos not eating...?

jwr0201 Jan 03, 2004 04:30 PM

My leos eating slowed recently and they have all but stopped eating for the past two weeks. They are three healthy, fat 9 minth old females. Before, they each would each eat 5-10 giant mealworms every other day. They are given calcium and vitamins via dusting the mealies four times weekly and temps are good at belly level at 90 degrees. Other than a cooler room air temperature, I cannot figure out why they are not interested in eating. They are still active. Any ideas? Thx - RR

They are probably slowing down because of the temps and light changes which tell them it's winter. The air temp does play a part, so if you want them to keep eating, you may want to find a way to warm it up a bit. Either cover part of the screen top(find a way to do it safely if you've got a light), or move them to a warmer room. Otherwise, when mine slow down during the winter, I don't notice a drastic weight loss; everything just slows; they should come out of it as the days get longer and warmer.

Rob - Thanks for the info! I did notice that they do not seem to be losing any weight at all. I suspected that the cooler temps may be slowing them down a bit - this is a relief. I do like my geckos! Rob R.
