also where do I find sheet moss?
and what type of light do I need to grow it?

Look on my links site below, I have not seen ghost wood any place else, but Piece of the Tropics, Custom Ecos, and some others also sell moss. I have had better luck with pillow moss than sheet moss, but thats just me.

I think T&C miht have ghost wood but im not sure. I was wanting to buy ghost wood but $15 for a piece of wood is just stupid! IMHO.But i was about to pay it until we went camping one day. We were out on the boat and i relized how much driftwood there was along the bank of the lake! So the day we left we went out on the boat I jumped off collected 2 arm loads of driftwood and took em home. Most all were junk but i kept two really cool pieces. They have been in my tank for over 6 months with no molf or break down at all.

What kinda wood is ghost wood? ?cedar? I dont think it is but it sounds familier.

oh and whats that digital thing in front of your tank?
does that read out temp and humidity? if so where did you get it? and how much was it?

what should the proper temp/humidity be?
thanks again

Its a digital temp/humidity meter. I got it from walmart for $15. Humidity needs to stay 80% or better. To get a humidity reading the meter needs to be in the tank. I know how my tanks is so i took it out. (hence why it says 42%). And temps nned to stay in mid-high 70s during the day with a 5 degree drop at night. They can be kept above 80 (not reccoemended) for short periods of time. Dont make a habit of it. Could be fatal of a while.

This is a piece of ghost wood in my communitty tank. I created a waterfall running through the middle of it. I think it looks great and think it is the best wood. If you can find any I would recommend trying it. this is a very young picture of this tank. It was lightly planted and the plants have now grown in to fill the tank.

i heard that ghost wood is just oak wood that has been sandblasted....

TonyT Jan 04, 2004 07:16 PM

If you ever see ghost wood you will find that its shape is not like that of an Oak. It is some what of a twisted, grooved, and branchy look. I am not saying IT IS NOT OAK, I am just saying it does not LOOK to me like it is.

I have read that Ghost wood is Oak Root sections. It stands to reason that it is some sort of hard wood. It lasts and lasts in the tank and incidentals like certain mosses will grow and root onto it. I have regular Oak with the bark on, and incidentals such as fungi(mushrooms)seem to start easier on the ones with the bark on. I have had mushrooms come up on ghost wood without bark but I think it was more from decomposing plant on the wood. I vote for Ghost wood, and yeah, its costly, but I think its worth it, no other woods have looked as pretty just all by itself, and seems to bring the tank to life even without too many plants. Perhaps using a few pieces just as focal point would be more cost effective.
