Need some help/advice(eggbound or infection?)

Sara2 Jan 03, 2004 06:27 PM

One of my females layed her first clutch yesterday early morning. It was only one egg,but was a little larger then the norm. See hasn't been eating in the past 3 weeks but haden't lost any weight really and I had a female that did that last year so I wasn't too worried. She dug around for 2 days and then layed the single egg. But since laying she doesn't look very good. Her eyes are sunken in some, one more then the other. and she is semi-lethargic. I figureed yesterday she was just tierd and would be better today but she wasn't so I went to the emergency vet since my vet was closed. They recomended I do the warm soaks and give her BAYTRIL once a day then go to my vet monday. He said he couldn't see any eggs and could onlt do an xray to see if there were more. I think I see one but it may not be I can't be certian.
What does this sound like to anyone?
She was about 70-75 grams and she is down 67.
She was bred about 3 1/2 weeks ago along with 3 other females and they all layed last week with no problems.
Any help appretiated, Thanks

Sara-

I would hesitate to give a leopard gecko Baytril. It can be very rough on a reptiles system, and I feel that sometimes it does more bad than good. What exactly did he prescibe the Baytril for? Was she diagnosed with some sort of infection?

If there is still an egg in her you should be able to see it very clearly. What you might be seeing is another, developing egg that she will lay next time. How does her tail look? Still pretty fat? Or is it getting skinny? Can you post a picture of her?

Here is a pic. Her tail is thinner but it still isn't too thin.
I think what I can see are just developing eggs.
I didn't give her the baytrill, I always like to check her first and no he didn't really diagnos her w/anything. I shouldn't have gone there, but i tend to worry and want to do something right away, and I really don't like the way her eyes look.
The one eye more so then the other. I saw her drink and go to the bathoom but it was only urate and water. But she is not to active. But she was trying to walk away when I was trying to take pics.
Thanks
