Hello to all!!

MyNameIsYuri Jan 03, 2004 06:42 PM

Hello!

My name is Yuri, and I am from Kazakhstan. I now live in the state of Ohio, USA. So my english is not exemplary, but don't worry that I am not very smart

I am amazed at how reptiles are so very common like everything else here in the USA, and the assorted many species are too much for me!!! However, I recently going to the herp shows thinking to get some of my own and many things grab my eye. My reptile friend left in Kazakhstan is getting very angry!! I know that varanus has my heart, but I do not decide on which one. The lizard man sends me to this site to look. Yuri needs help!!

I saw at the herp show very large V.salvator, and my boyhood dream of owning one. But my condominium is not so large, but I do have a dog pen I could use. I get very happy at thinking of this species, but I know they need everything in excess.

Since "people are either pretty or large" , I have also been looking at smaller species like V.rudicollis and V.storri. But I don't like those species so much and they are small. Should I keep many small different varanus together? A large strong varanus appeals to me, but many together are just as strong as the largest.

Many Thanks To All,

Yuri Voorhak

Hey,
Well if you really want a large impressive monitor that would be good for starting I would go for either a black or a white throat monitor they are great. Check out proexotics.com and you'll see what I mean they are amaxing, they grow to about 6 feet and they are quite heavy bodied...they have beautiful colors and pattern and amazing temperment. If you have the space I would go for one.

Good Luck
