Labialpitstop,
. The price you pay for a baby BRB very much depends upon where you buy. IMO the best place to buy a BRB is at one of the larger shows. At the big shows there will be many of them available from different breeders and dealers so you get to see a large selection to choose from. Prices at a show should be from $100 to $150. Buying from a breeder is usually best but some of the dealers know about these snakes and have good reputations and buying from them is fine. You can get them for about the same prices on the internet but you have to pay shipping in addition to the price for the snake. Baby BRBs at petstores are usually priced from $175 to $300. A few petstore employees are very knowledgeable but many are not. Before you buy a BRB make sure you know about their husbandry requirements and have a cage setup with the correct temperature and humidity ahead of time.

Thanks!!

A freind of mine got a pair at a local show recently. She was showing me her's and I became interested pretty quickly. There is another show coming up in Feb so I have some time, I might just wait for hers to get up to breeding weight though. She got them from a guy that is known for them, I can't remember who right now. I am trying to find more info on these little wonders and it is a little harder to find than other species, can you tell me of some sites/books that would be helpfull? Thanks!!!

I do agree with jeff because i bought 2 brazilian rainbow boas from a guy who happen to bought 26 of them and sold me 2 for $220, but he didnt know much about brbs so i went to the pet shop and asked them for advice and all the advice they have given me happen to be bad for my snakes and thanks to jeff and a few others on this forum my snakes are fine now and seem to be happy. The advice the pet shop gave me would ave resulted in my snakes ending up very sick and die. Pet shops suck!!!

That's hardly fair. You should say things like '™ percent of petshops suck'. That way you're not dissing the one good one that has to exsist somewhere.
I got my BRB for $60, but she's not quite normal.

Brian: Are you sure it was a book? Are you sure it wasn't NOTHING?

I meant 99 percent, but instead this lovely forum changed it to some sort of odd symbol.

Yea i apoligize for that, there should be a few good onces... but as far i see them i compare them to computer shops with people working in them having nu clue what they sell and only trying to make you spend more he he

heyyy haha, Not ALL Petstores are bad but most I can say are... I work at a petstore and I honestly consider myself fairly knowledgeable about reptiles. I have just started to look more into brazilian Rainbow Boas and so far I have been very amazed at the oodles of information I'm able to obtain. I'd also like to thank everyone who has made GREAT informative posts!! Enough sucking up... JUST THANKS!!

I too must agree. I work in a pet store and spend a lot of time doing research on reptiles. I have been keeping them for a while now and have gained much experiance through my job. I consider it my job (because it is) to be informed about animals and their care. I tell people what I know and if I don't know the answer to something, I go ask someone else. Not all pet shops are bad!

You do have to be careful though. Little tips:

first off, look at the cages of the animals

look at the animals them selves (mites, loose stools in the cages, regurgitation, retained eye caps, RI's etc....)

ask LOTS of questions!! I hate to say it but act like a novice, if you have already done a suficient amount of research (which you should), listen for the right answers.

if you don't feel that you are asking the right person, request someone else.

this is a strange one......look at the floors. If the floors are all nasty, chances are the animals are not well cared for. This is just my personal experiance here.

one more thing, have fun! Going to a pet store is fun!

(I got this one from a major chain pet store and she turned out just fine, no RI/worms/salmonila etc...)
