I'm always looking around for great RES tank set-ups so I can improve my own. Does anyone wanna show off their tanks??

Well mine isn't the most attractive.. but the turtles seem to like it.. if I had anything else in there.. they would either eat it all, try and eat it, or leave it floating around.. The other turtle is hiding under the island .. bit camera shy..
The tank is a 90 gal, Fluval 303 cansister filter (I know I should have picked up a 404). and 100 watt heater with guard. 40 watt basking lamp, and proper fluresent lighting for good UVA & UVB..

It's in the middle of the tank pointing towards the island. It's a full sectrum Repti-Glow 5.0 UVB It's what is casting the bluish light

tilapia....cool!
I am hoping to raise them in some numbers in the ext few years...food for people, turtles and also swimmy friends!

I got the talapias that are from in my tank from a guy who raises talapias for food. I thought they would make a good feeder fish. But after 6 months they grew a lot and my turtle shows little interest in them. I have 2 vareties, black and red. The guy also had pearl but I didn't get any.

Nice setup. Very realistic looking! Do you have pics of the whole tank? And what size tank is it? Gallons? Inches?

iturnrocks Jan 05, 2004 06:12 PM

The Main tank is a 120 Gallon. That is 60in long X 25in high X 18in front to back. Water flows from the main tank to a 20 gal long then to the filter I built then back to the main tank.

You can see photos and more details on my filter and the way the tanks connect HERE.

As for photos of my whole setup, I will try to show how it all goes together.

Here is the tank when I first bought it, on the stand that I built-

Here is how I operated the tank before I built the hood. I basically had no filter at this time, only a corner filter I made out of some spare parts.

Here is one of the early pictures of my hood. As you can see I hadnt yet filled the tank all the way up yet. Also the filter at this point was the bucket to the left.

Here is the tank today. Sorry about the poor lighting, No my fishes eyes dont glow, its the flash. It also makes the water look yellow and the decorations rather dark. The link below this picture is the same photo with no flash, which looks really grainy.

How much do you think it cost you to make the filter? And how long did it take?

iturnrocks Jan 08, 2004 10:38 PM

I have spent about $250 making my filter. Not sure on actual hours spent; I assembled most of it over a period of 3 days.

You have a really awesome setup. I think we have the same size tank, 60x18x24.

Here is our 20-gallon long tank setup.

The turtle shell in the back is custom-made, designed based on the RES shell pattern. My two RES hatchlings do several bizzard things under that thing.

1). stand tip-toed on all four, looking up, and pay homage (I think they're probably looking at reflections of themselves)
2). use for protection
3). take a breather (since the dome forms an air pocket inside)
4). feed under it, esp. the smaller one we call "Timmy." He's got some serious timid issues!
