Just a rant. Many times I have looked at colubrid hybrids and went WOW. Other times I have looked at hybrid boas and went COOL. I have even seen and been amazed by the crazy hybrids like the Jungle/greentree, and thought man if I could actually limit myself to one pet snake that would be great (as we know with Herpers this never happens) NEVER have I looked at any Morelia's and thought, "hey those two would undoubtadely look better if crossed". One of the things I like about these pythons is the difference and variety of the specimens color, size, etc. My problem with hybrids isnt with Hybrids but more with people that sell them as pure. When I was young and inexperienced I was fascinated by the beauty of a true Jungle Carpet Python. I saw a "jungle" for about 65 dollars at a show thought it was a steal and bought it. Now I think, a 65 dollar jungle? yeah right.

This "Jungle" grew up looking great at first, but soon turned into something very different, at three years old it was pushing seven feet, and it was a male. A very docile snake, but poorly colored and either a bad jungle/diamond mix, or some unidentified mutt, that was totally useless to the furthering of Jungles as far as purity and beauty.

My opinion on Hybrids is now VERY different, especially when it comes to the Morelia's. I wonder why on earth would anyone ever want to cross two beatiful snakes to produce an average one at best? With the exception of a high end Jungle/Diamond they dont really look that great IMO(I would prefer a pure Jungle or Diamond to a cross anyway), yet everywhere I turn I hear about "what would these to matched up look like?" etc. How many of us go to, or know anyone that goes to shows just to get a pet python? Not many I would assume. Yet there are still unethical breeders selling mislabled junk to people who are new to the game that may be looking to get into reptiles more seriously like I was years ago. This is very aggrivating to me, so I decided the only thing I could do is get rid of my "average" animals and only buy the best which is what I am in the process of doing.

So in closing I guess I just wanted to share my opinion, which to sum it up is, some hybrids may be novel to look at, but what purpouse does it serve in the big scheme of things? For me they serve no purpouse other than MAYBE getting something pretty to look at. If that is what you want, great! Just do me a favor and dont adapt the attitude that you need a quick buck and "adding a little bit of this wont hurt anything"
