Help with an absess on my 11 yr. old...

mortishaturtle Jan 03, 2004 11:11 PM

Mortisha is my 11 year old RES. She's been doing fine her whole life but a few weeks ago I noticed this absess or cut or something on her chin. At first it was small just a line like a small cut. But soon in grew bigger until it became very pronounced as shown in the picture. There is also a small boil-ish looking thing just underneeth and to the left of the line/injury thing. It has appeared to stop growing now but it is not going away either. It does not seem to be painful to her at all. I think I might be some form of mouth rot but I have no idea because she's never been sick before (I guess I'm lucky to have gone 11 years without anything like this). Anybody have suggestions? Treatments? I do know she is overweight but I have begun remediing that by feading less often and lower protein foods. Please help my little baby!

(the picture is really poor quality, my digital camera sucks! her water is much clearer than it looks! and her coloring is brighter too)

its so small i can't diagnose at all. Could be the "start" of an abcess. If you are hyper paranoid you could take the turtle to a vet but they's have to know lots about turtles to be sure about this one.

has it gotten any bigger?
Does it ooze pus? Blood?

No it has pretty much stayed the same size. No blood or pussing. It just resembles a wort or something of that nature. She doesn't show any signs of infection or illness from her behavior so I'm just assuming it's a strange but benevolent growth. The circular thing appeared at the same time as the line under her beak so i don't know if they're related at all?

If it gets any bigger or starts to look infected I'll see a vet. I am just paranoid I guess.
