Anyone been bitten by their beardie? If so, did it hurt? >>

shortydsm Jan 03, 2004 11:36 PM

After looking at the picture at the top of this forum, and looking closely at my beardie's mouth when she flared up at me... they got some chompers! I just wondering if a beardie bites hurts? The only lizard I have been bitten by is my 4 foot iguana & I had to get 5 butterfly stitches across my stomach for that one... owwww!!!

bearded dragons are not noted for attacking with their mouths, they flar up is and snap, but for major defense they whip tails... I have been bitten twice and both times was an accident and my own fault.

I was bit on accident also, I got several good punctures. They have darn strong jaws.
I'm not sure their bite would ever warrant stitches though.

Yeah, but not by any of them as adults. I was bitten a few times by my own fault. I hand fed one of mine, and he got me once or twice. He broke the skin, but I wouldn't say it was too bad. The same one was hissing and biting at me yesterday, and I'll just say i'm much more careful now.

Yes, they have strong jaws - and it hurts. I was hand feeding my female Disa once and she went after my finger by mistake (she is a very huuuungry lady..!) she bit right through my fingernail... hurt like &#/&%@£ - and the nail went blue. From now on I always use plastic tweezers when I feed her.

But this was my own fault, and I have never ever been "attacked".

been bit by my dragon several times. Most times she never broke the skin and the bite felt sort of like a pinch by somebody with nails long enough to mark the skin. It wasn't as painful as say, a kitten in a playfull mode but my dragon at the time was around 6 months old.

The times she did bite hard enough to draw blood, one was just where she got me, on the top of my finger instead of the side where (at least on my hands anyway) the skin is much thinner and soft. The first time she drew blood was when I was trying to pick her up after chasing her around my living room trying to catch her to put her back into her cage. She didn't like to be handled much back then. I thought she wouldn't bite and just bluff...but she decided to skip that part and chomped on my finger. It hurt but not really that bad compared to bites from other critters I had.

The other time she bit me was while I was hand feeding her crickets and she missed the cricket, caught my finger instead. She didn't mean that and looked very apologetic about the whole thing. Of course I forgave her and fed her more crickets and she was more careful after that. She was about 8 months at this point.

Kinda... My bottomless pit, Patchie, tries to eat my ring. It's a pearl and she must think it's really tasty looking. She nips at it every time I put my hand in her cage and forget to take it off. She's real cute though... she nips at it really gentle - like she knows it's attached to my finger and doesn't want to hurt me!

No, luckily I haven't, but I'm not going to let my bf read these posts! He used to be afraid of Telamon b/c he wasn't around him much and he thought his bite would hurt. After we moved in to our house, he watched him eat and became convinced that a bite wouldn't hurt b/c Telamon mostly grabs the insects with his tongue - which we have been hit by!

He's comfortable with Telamon now and likes to handle him, so this post will be a little secret...

p.s. I didn't think they could hurt anyone, either!

I've been bitten twice, once by each. Both times I was separating my 2 males. That was when they were younger, now they are kept apart all the time.

It felt like getting pinched hard with a pair of pliers. My thumb was sore and bruised once, and the other time it drew a little blood because he caught loose skin.

I've never had any problems when hand feeding them. Maybe a little tongue, but no biting
