not just crocs, but ELEPHANTS?

taphillip Jan 03, 2004 11:48 PM

Crocs are one thing, easily controlled, easily avoided. That said a 1 month old baby is not able to support it's own head. It is not going to be croc savvy from that experience. Steve is far too inexperienced to endanger his child that way. Lets face it, for those of us that do work regularly with large quantities of large Crocodilians, he obviously has very little if any skill when it comes to doing anything with Crocodilians. Let alone takin his kid in there for publicity.
If that isn't enough, look at the article that said after all the publicity he got from that, in defiance he sent his five year old daughter in an empty croc enclosure to splash around alone. But then they let adult elephants in there within meters of her. Ask someone who works with elephants, they are the most dangerous animal in the world in a captive environment. The only respect I had for this toad (which is now gone) was that he brought reptile awareness to the general public. This man and his ditzy wife should face complete criminal prosecution!
Please don't idealize this guy, find a real professional to learn from and admire.

where is all this comming from about leaving his daughter to splash in a croc pond. and what is this about elephants.

And how do you figure that hes inexperienced. he owns a zoo full of crocs and has been catching them by hand since he was 9. just think about it hes even called "the Croc Hunter" hes by far more experienced then most.

It was in the article on kingsnake.com along all the others. Read it yourself.
Inexperienced is true. watch the show, if you have worked with the animals that he has you would know this to be true as well.
Not trying to burst peoples balloons, but sometimes the truth hurts.

Where did you get your experience? Do you work at a facility that has crocs or do you own them personally? What species have you worked with and what are the sizes?
I've worked with probably a dozen species but most have been in the 3-8 foot range. I'd be interested to speak with anyone who has extensive experience with crocodiles over 10 feet.
