What kind of toad do I have?

mwbwhorton Jan 04, 2004 01:19 AM

Greetings everyone...
I am new to the toad keeping trade so any tips and advice will
be appreciated.First i'm not sure what kind of toad I have except I know they fall in the Bufo family. They look like
Woodhouses Toads except the paratoid glands are smaller and there are no cranial crests.
I have two,one has almost exact same back markings as Woodhouses
except no stripe in middle of back.Belly and throat are creamy
white.
The other has spotted back with creamy white belly and throat.
Both are females. Now for my setup. The toads are in a 10 gallon
aquarium with 3 inches of substrate,1/4 covered with moss, the
rest open for burrowing kept slightly damp.Furnishings include
a hide log, water dish for soaking and several plastic plants
for shade.
Currently there is no heater on the inclosure and i'm not sure
i need one despite the fact house temps drop to near 60 at night
in winter.
That about wraps it up. The main question is can anyone ID my
toads? They were sold as Bufo Regularis but i'm not so sure.

Sounds like a good setup so far....

But on cue of what type of toads you've got, i dont know, what color are the bumps, are the bumps in clusters of two or three, how big are they, and what direction are the pupils in their eyes? hopefully someone will help you out. Good luck.

Are they old enough to call? Some species of toads look exactly like another and you need a call to tell exactly what they are.
