Basically, the sender goes to the airport and puts the package on a plane, and then you go to your airport to pick it up.
You'll want to call Delta ahead of time and find out WHERE their cargo goes. At my airport it goes to this little building next to the airport, and it's no fun to be driving around looking for it at the last minute in the dark.
Also, where I am, the packages don't arrive at this little building until 45 minutes after the plane lands, which is also a good thing to know.

Peter: It's OK, I'll handle it. I read a book about something like this.
Brian: Are you sure it was a book? Are you sure it wasn't NOTHING?

Am i allowed to open it, at the airport, to make sure everything is okay...and is there any paperwork to sign other than "I received it"

still ok, (alive), if not file a complaint right there.

They might make you open it in the parking lot, if they find out what it is .

Delta is the only company I know that allows shipping live snakes so it would be in your best interest to open it in front of them. The animals are insured by delta and if they died then a complaint should be filed immediately.

True, they allow shipping of snakes, but they've told me it was their policy to not allow the package to be opened inside. They've still let me do it, though, if the person working at the counter was interested in seeing it.

Yeah, generally the people behind the counter at mine aren't big fans... Most of the stuff I've gotten through Delta is venomous, so opening it up and checking on the snake at the counter never really occured to me.
