frikidiki Jan 04, 2004 08:28 AM

I have a male albino burmese. Ive had him since 1998. How come he hasnt grown the way I see other burms do? Hes more than 6ft but not as fat and big headed as other pythons his age.Why is that so?Hes cage is of adequate size and I feed him chicks almost twice a week.

So you have a snake that is almost 6 years old and is only just over 6 feet long? I could be wrong but it sounds to me like you might be slowly starving him. I am not real sure how much a python will get out of a baby chicken. I have 3 albino burms, with two of them being albino greens and all of them are under 4 years old and all of them are over 9 feet long. My albino green male is 2 and a half years old and 10 foot long. Albino green female at 2 and a half that is 14 foot long, last a normal albino female a little over three and a half years old at 16 foot long. The two females just got done eating a 9lb rabbit each. All I could suggest to you is to try feeding him larger prey like rats, then get him on rabbits if you want to get him real big. Also you have to remember that males do not get as big as the females and some just stay kinda small. I hope this helps you out. Marty Hartman

I agree with the post above. For the first three feet you should have been feeding it every three days. And chicks should only be used to feed a starving snake that will not eat. At five feet, I started feeding mine small rabbits the 1 lbs - 3lbs and I feed her every five to seven days. I would get off the chicks and go to jumbo rats or small rabbits, prefreably rabbits since that is what he will be eating. It is said that burms grow throughout there lives, so it should grow, but maybe you just got a little one. Nothing wrong with that if its tame. I am sure if you did not want it, and you told people how old it was someone would want a small burm.
