Treating chameleons with upper respitory infection

devour Jan 04, 2004 01:40 PM

I have 3 veiled chameleons and two jackons. I got the jacksons a week ago and the male didn't seem quite right he was sleeping during the day and lethargic. After getting him my fiance and I fell terribly ill for over four days. Vomiting, coughing, sinus problems ect. Today I noticed one of my veils breathing with his mouth open and both jacksons were doing the same. I saw strings of spit when the male jackson did it. I looked online and it says its a URI. No vets are open but I have baytril on hand for my doves. How much do I give the lizards and how do I administer it?

I'm not sure about any of that but with my snakes if they have a breathing problem we just up the temps on the tanks...usually clear up things nicely...not sure if that applies to chams though.

You really need to just get the animals to a Vet ASAP. Baytril is not something to play around with on Chameleons when you don't know what you are doing. A vet really needs to see the animal to see even if Baytril is the best treatment for the illness. Also Baytril is very damaging if not administered correct and even when dosed correctly can still have very adverse effects on Chameleons. Good luck and hopefully you can get them in to your Vet first thing in the morning. If you need help finding a qualified Herp Vet in your area you can check through the ARAV website listed below.
