Where can I purchase second hand equipment?

clownloach Jan 04, 2004 03:41 PM

Hi, I am wondering if anyone would have any idea where I can buy second hand equipment, tanks, heaters, cages, etc. I don't have a lot of money to spend on equipment. I live on Long Island. Any help and or information would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yard sales, classifieds, ebay.... Might try a pet store -Perhaps they get rid of some things after using? Rubbermaid cages/tanks are cheaper to put together than aquariums. Besides, with an aquarium you may end of shelling out more money to fix potential heat & humidity problems. Aquariums can be more work/money to maintain proper heat and humidity ranges, but to me it's worth it & possible.

Good luck!

If you live on Long Island, I lived on Long Island for 7 years, then Big Apple Herpetological is in Holbrook, you might give them a call. A lot of their stuff is fairly inexpensive but they may also have other leads to follow. If you want to go cheap, check out Wal-Mart/K-Mart/Target. Go with human heating pads, rubbermaid boxes and newspaper for substrate.

There are classified ads on here and there are always used items for sale....also you could use ebay or something like that...

We actually made our tanks - it was relatively easy and inexpensive. We used 2x4's (cut to our specifications at home depot), chicken wire, plywood and a sheet of plexiglass. The plexi was the most expensive - around $30 I think. The tank is big enough for me to sit in! about 5 ft long, 2 1/2 ft deep and 3 feet tall. Plenty of space. Feel free to email me if you have questions about the design jhouston57@hotmail.com
