flpsk8119 Jan 04, 2004 04:25 PM

I have a black throat monitor that used to eat a mouse every day
And sometimes i would feed him two mice. He still ate a mouse every day but he would only eat one and not be interested at all in t he second one. Now he doesnt even eat a mouse every day I dont know how many mice hes eaten in the past 2 weeks but its not alot more than 4 or five. I didnt change anything in his cage and his temps are almost perfect. can anyone tell me what they think is wrong and how i can get him eating better.

I am not certain on the sex of my bt i was just saying he. It does also seem to have kind of mood swings like one day it will be perfect and the next day it'l b hissing at me again. Do u think it could be something having to do with the breeding season.

Yes, it may have something to do with your monitor slowing down and on eating habits. To make a long explanation short, if it is a female and she produces eggs and then cannot reabsorb them, this may cause her to slow down and stop eating all together at some point. At this point if they are not removed, it can result in death. There are other syptoms of this also. And there could be many different reasons why your monitor is does not have the same eating habits. I am not saying that this is what is wrong with your monitor, as it is not my animal and I am not familiar with its every day habits. It is just a possible scenario. This happened to a friend or ours bt/wt cross. She had to have surgery to remove the eggs.
