Feeding

Spangles Jan 04, 2004 04:44 PM

My new iguanas are pretty spoiled...I feed them at least twice a day from my hand. They are young and growing rapidly, so I figured they need the extra food and energy, even though everything I've read online says to only feed them once a day, as much as they will eat. Is it ok to be feeding them so much, as long as they still want it?

personally i feed mine once a day, but keep what he doesn't eat moist and by the end of the day, he has eaten it all...try putting the food in in the morning, keep it moist...n see if they pace themselves eating, you don't have to keep hand feeding them, they should get used to eating without you feeding them by hand...they are young, but as they get older they will exspect it all the time and i'm sure there will be times where you just don't have time to sit and hand feed them.....

this is just a personal opinion, not ment to sound like an expert cuz that i am not...

Thanks!!! I do feed them in their cage some of the time (for instance, I leave food in at bedtime) but I enjoy hand feeding them also, and I hope they continue to eat from my hand as they grow older.

you leave food in at bedtime? that isn't good for them, they need fed during the day and given plenty of time to sit in their heat spot to digest...how are you heating the cage? how do you heat during the day...and now do you heat during the night?
