Opinions on color needed please...... Test pictures inside!

BeginnersBasics Jan 04, 2004 05:18 PM

Thanks in advance to any who reply and post opinions on these pictures.

I just this minute took these and uploaded them. Please reply and let me know which ones look like a more "true" color using the pepsi can as a guide....
Example....
Top left picture in first set would be 1A, bottom right picture in first set would be 1B

Thanks

I kind of torn between the two. 1A looks like the colors are dulled. 1B looks over saturated although I don't know if thats the best way to put it. 2A seems a little dull but less so then 1A. 2B seems the closest to what the actual colors should be. I figure your gonna say that 1A and 2A are the same and 1B and 2B are the same. But I'm sticking with 2B.

I would say that 1A and 2A look like the true colors. 1B and 2B look over saturated, and I would maybe think those were doctored.

I would say 2A looks the best and most realistic to me. Everyone's monitors are different however, I remember seeing a picture of one of my dragons on a monitor at my college library and it was a hugely saturated ball of red.

Thak you all for your opinions....

Funny thing is in 1A and 2A she looked horribly washed out to me and yet the pepsi can looks right. The dragon's colors look right in 1B and 2B ... This is strange. I can not seem to get them right on this girl at all! (Well I can't seem to get her colors in addition to a prop right at the same time LOL)

Hopefully I will find a "middle ground" somehow. I don't want to advertise her as something she isn't and yet I can't get her colors to look like she truly is without someone jumping all over me LOL

...but I have seen a pepsi can! So I may have been judging the entire photo more on that than on the lizard, since I didn't know what she was supposed to look like in the first place.

You just have to use your best judgement, because nothing ever looks the same in pictures as it does in real life. She is a gorgeous dragon any way you slice it, though!

I think it's a good idea, as someone mentioned, just to put a little disclaimer saying you tried to get the picture to match her real life colors as best you could.

These are 100% unaltered!

I did however wake her up for these pictures so she isn't showing her awesome color lol, but I want to know if this looks to be "true"

Thanks again and sorry for being a pest. I want to continue to uphold my honest name with my dragons and this means A LOT to me

I think those look great. If I were looking to buy I wouldn't even think twice about it.

Don't let one persons opinion put so much stress on you. Any picture taken into an enclosure or with lighting from the sides comes out looking a little to red, or yellowing a bit at least with my camera and the lighting I use In the cages. I can never get a good quality true to color picture of my dragons into their cages with their lights on. The best pics I can take are out of the enclosure with normal incandescent light above in the ceiling or with light through the window behind me. Basically what I'm saying is the lighting where the picture is taken means everything. You can set the camera the exact same way and take one in the cage, one outside in daylight, and one in normal lighting and they all will come a bit different. I think the main thing in advertising is being consistent with the pics. Take them in the same place with the same background, and proper lighting that best suits the dragons, and do all the photos for advertising in that place. Yes, everyone's monitor might be set a bit different and we can't help that. That's out of our control, but we can take the best true to life pics we can, and that's as much as we can do without having the buyer come and pick it out in person. I think that dragon in these pictures looks great, and who's to say it is not in fact 3 times brighter. We never seen it before. If you get problems with the people you sell to then I would worry there is a problem, or it's time to invest in that better camera which isn't always the answer. If your not having problems with buyers questioning your pics then I think your doing the best you can with what you got, and should not take one persons opinion to heart. He/she wasn't interested in buying anyway.

I looked at your pic with the can using Photoshop. Technically speaking as a longtime professional photographer and graphic artist... That's a beautiful dragon.

Just remember an RGB monitor can display 16,000,000 colors. Just think of the possibilities!!!
