I would say no. I use a 35 gal tank for my corn since he was about 14" long. The dimensions of my cage is smaller than yours, being not as wide (12" wide, 18" high, 35" long) but I dont think the extra foot in width would make much difference. Just make sure there are plenty of hides, in both the warm and cool end, etc.

Just wondering, is your town too big for you? Sure if you had nowhere to call home int hat town it might be a bit stressful, but if you had a place to get out of the sun, and/or a place to warm up when it gets cold... well, I'm sure you see my point. The matter of too big is a moot point. Corn snakes move miles over the course of their life, they just need a place to shack up when life is getting the better of them... Don't think of your snake as a possesion think of it as somewhat "human," and how you would feel in it's situation...
I asked because I've heard some people say that some species just don't do well in setups too large for them. If a snake won't really utilize the height or the extra depth and would be too stressed I would like to consider alternative setups. For some species height is a waste for others length or depth is a waste. I know that we usually want to get the biggest we can afford, but it's not always worth it.
I in no way now or never have ever thought of any of my pets as possessions, but family members. I treat them with the utmost respect and care. The last thing I want to do is get things wrong from the get go.
Thank you!
