Florida Boxie Hatchling

jsherps Jan 04, 2004 11:15 PM

This little guy just hatched out on Jan 1st, 2004. My first turtle of the year :-D

I found the egg from this guy a month after the incubation had already started, so he's got some messed up scutes from major temperature fluctuations in the habitat that the adult is in. Either way he's alive and he's still really cute. There was 2 eggs in this clutch, only one hatched. I'm keeping this guy due to irregular scutes...just makes him unique.

Oh yeah...he's a fat little hatchling, 9.6 grams and 1.1 inches.

Holding him..

and next to a quarter...you can see the irregular scutes near the rear of his shell. He's got 15 instead of the usual 13.
