Hi everyone. I have been reading this forum for about a month now and learned alot of information on my beardeds. I thank you all for this! Every time I have a ? I look at the forum and would't you know it someone has already answered it for me. Enough of my mumbling. My ? is. If you plan to breed a male dragon when it gets older would it be a problem to hold him alot and calm him down while he is young or do you want to leave him be so he stays a little wild.
Thanks for your time

First off, welcome to the forum!

I would really doubt that you would have any problems if you held the dragon a lot. My breeder male was held A LOT when he was younger and he has not had any problems with the/his female dragons. I guess you can say he knows when to snuggle and he knows when to get the job done

Good luck,
Steve

Welcome to the forum, and I'm glad you are learning and enjoying yourself. I know I did for a while before I started answering & asking my own questions. My males are the biggest, most pampered, friendly dragons on this earth. My Foster at 23 inches and 740 grams is a huge teddy bear. I wouldn't give up the handling and time we had together for any stud breeder male which he is going to be this year Seems the males have no problems turning on when the time comes. I think its instinct for them in the view of a female to go through their motions which for the first time seeing you will crack up, I did. Foster the girls seem to just wait for him to come get them. He's very wild and he blackens his beard chest and arms and looks ready when he will get his chance. I also have hypomelanistic dragons that the girls seem to look at like their crazy. They go through the motions like Foster, but due to their lack of melanin they do not get black beards. My younger pastel is doing the same now and he is just 7 months old. When the time comes for them to breed I'm going to break out the black magic marker, and paint them a nice manly beard to get the ladies attention LOL. So the answer is no it would not make much of a difference if you held the male often. Seems when the time comes and they got a female in view it's all business. Emjoy your dragons!!!

Boy I'm glad thats not a problem! I just can't seem to leave the little guy in his cage. He sits there looking at me like he's begging to be held. So, i will still handle him the way i have been.
Thanks

Just to ease your mind some more.....

My best male breeder is also the one who goes to my children's elementary school and does show and tell, etc. He is handled daily and even my 3 year old plays with him.
