Snails??

FisherCham20 Jan 05, 2004 01:33 AM

I think I remember reading somewhere about chameleons eating snails.... I found a few outside a few days ago (tiny garden ones). Has anyone heard of them eating them or fed them to one? I'm concered about the shells. Not going to even try feeding them to him till I can verify that it's okay. Thanks!!!

Personally I don't like to feed "field plankton" (any feeder insects from outside) I'm sure most of the time it is fine but you never know if you get a bad slug, snail, grasshopper, cricket, worm and it could do your animal harm...

I prefer captive bred insects...at least you know they are safe...if I ever need to order feeders from a new company we always go to check out the operation first...most of the time they are more than happy to show you around...the mice breeder we buy mice from does not let his feeders sit the freezer more than 12 hours before shipping them out...if they go longer than 24 hours in the freezer he either throws them away or discounts them and informs the buyers right away.

I buy my crickets and other feeders from reptiledepot. I fully agree with the feeding of outside bugs. Most areas around here get sprayed for mosquitos, so I don't trust any bug. But I had these sails, they've been inside for the past week, eating veggies. I don't think I'll try feeding them. I would hate to do him any harm. I'll stick with the soft silkworms. Thanks!!
